Packed and Ready

Well, this may be the most difficult packing I have done.  It is similar to a camping or hiking trip as in Haiti there are not Walgreen’s on every corner, I assume.  So, I have my list and have checked it twice.  Bug spray, check.  Sunscreen, check.  Dramamine, check.  And on and on.  Oh yeah, and about 25 pounds of food.  Nothing chocolate—chocolate, to my chagrin, melts in 90 degree heat with no air conditioning.  So, we are stuck with nuts, protein bars, lots of Goldfish (a favorite of Ella’s—and soon to be mine!), granola and of course, peanut butter crackers.

Ella and I are meeting the Trezo.org founders, Bob and Kay, at the Nashville airport for a 4:45 PM flight to Fort Lauderdale.  We will spend the night in Fort Lauderdale near the airport and catch a morning flight to Port au Prince, Haiti.  So, our real adventure won’t start until tomorrow.

From Port au Prince, we will grab a van and apparently enjoy a ride that makes New York cab rides seem tame.  Never seen a goat in the road on Park Avenue!  Once our of Port au Prince, a city of over 5 million people, we will weave our way for 3 to 4 hours through beautiful mountains until we arrive on the Southern coast of Cayes-Jacmel.  Our hotel is on the beach, so there is that.
